In alignment with the sustainability goals underway in Baltimore County, Maryland, the county has partnered with TotalEnergies to install a 622-kilowatt solar system atop the Randallstown Community Center. The project marks the county’s largest solar energy initiative to date, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable practices and energy independence.
“Climate change poses one of the most significant threats to our long-term health and prosperity, and we have a responsibility to take action today so the next generation inherits a more sustainable future,” said County Executive Johnny Olszewski. “We are thankful for this partnership with TotalEnergies, which demonstrates that we can invest in innovative solutions that save money and preserve the environment so that future generations can enjoy it for years to come.”
Under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA),TotalEnergies built, owns and will maintain operations and maintenance of the solar system while Baltimore County benefits from reliable and cost-effective clean energy.
The solar system, which directly feeds into the Community Center’s electric room, will generate approximately 800,000 kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually and significantly reduce its reliance on traditional, fossil fuel-based electricity.
The environmental benefits of this project are also substantial. By harnessing the power of the sun, the solar rooftop will offset over 558 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year — equivalent to removing 133 gasoline-powered vehicles from the road or powering 110 homes for an entire year.
